In this essay I will study his monastic government. When Suger took office as the abbot of St.-Denis, he discovered the abbey to be serious moral and economic difficulties. First of all, therefore, he reformed so strictly the monastic order and ameliorated the ordinary life of the monks that Bernard de Clairvaux extolled him. Thereafter, he realized the rebuilding of the basilica. At the same time, he endeavoured to increase the monastic revenue through the creation of many privileges, the liberation of serfs, the cultivation of grapes, the assurance of usufruct of the forest, the building of new villages etc. But his most important task was the reconstruction of domanial management and the pursuit of its profitability.
